Why do people make crying seem like a bad thing?

You always hear "Don't cry, aw, don't cry" "You better not be crying" and "Why are you crying?" Um because I'm sad? Last time I checked it was a natural bodily function, otherwise your tear ducts wouldn't have been activated.
